FAQs

How do you define “minority”?

When we refer to “minority,” we specifically focus on underrepresented minorities in the field of computing. For clarity, we align with the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) definition of Underrepresented Minorities (URM), which includes federally recognized populations such as African American/Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Latino/Hispanic. Our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment centers around these communities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels welcomed and supported within the MiT community.

Do I have to be URM to join?

No, membership at MiT is open to everyone who supports our mission of fostering an inclusive environment for URM students in CSE. If our mission resonates with you and you find interest in our events, we encourage you to join us!

What type of events do you host?

A variety of socio-cultural, career, and academic events! From multicultural potlucks to career panels and study dates, we have many community building, fun, educational, and career prep events.
