How do you define “minority”?
When we refer to “minority,” we specifically focus on underrepresented minorities in the field of computing. For clarity, we align with the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) definition of Underrepresented Minorities (URM), which includes federally recognized populations such as African American/Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Latino/Hispanic. Our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment centers around these communities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels welcomed and supported within the MiT community.
Do I have to be URM to join?
Not at all! Our club is open to anyone in the Allen School who shares our purpose and wants to contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable tech community at UW and beyond.
What type of events do you host?
A variety of socio-cultural, career, and academic events! From multicultural potlucks to career panels and study dates, we offer a variety of community-building, fun, educational, and career preparation events.
