Minorities In Tech

Who are we?

Minorities in Tech at the University of Washington is built to be a place where people can come forward and be seen as more than their shell, more than whatever label has been placed on them because of their appearance and find comfort in knowing that their experiences, feelings of imposter syndrome, and goals for a brighter future for Black and LatinX people are shared.

Why MiT@UW?

As of Fall 2022, there are 1930 Allen School undergraduate students. Ten percent of our Allen School undergraduates students are underrepresented minority (URM) students. Of the 10% of URM students:

  • 42% are Black/African American
  • 4% are Native American/Alaska Native
  • 3% are Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
  • 51% are Hispanic/Latino
Diversity and inclusivity are not the same thing and, frankly, we are lacking in both. The creation of this group is a strong way to combat that.

Definition: URM = Federally recognized underrepresented minority populations (African American/Black, American Indian/ Alaska Native, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and Latino/Hispanic).
